Macroscopic Description - Kathleen McBride
The exterior of 336 has a dull, brown-black fusion crust with polygonal fractures. A few areas have a shiny, frothy appearance. 349's exterior has a thick purplish patch of fusion crust. The interiors of both are dull, black, soft and friable with white, cream and tan colored chondrules. Both have an oxidation rind.
Thin Section Description (,2) - Tim McCoy, Cari Corrigan
The sections consist of a few small chondrules (up to 0.5 mm), mineral grains and CAIs set in a black matrix; rare sulfide grains are present. Olivine compositions are Fa0-45, with a peak at Fa0-2. The matrix consists dominantly of an Fe-rich serpentine; chondrules are moderately altered. The meteorites are CM2 chondrites. |
