90% of the exterior has brown fusion crust, one surface is highly vesicular with evaporites. The dark brown/gray interior matrix has large gray chondrules/inclusions. |
The section is dominated by silicates with abundant metal occurring as veins, networks and blebs up to 1 mm in size, with minor troilite. Graphite appears to be absent. The silicates include olivine (Fa6-9), pyroxene (Fs1-7Wo1-2), and feldspar. The combination of low-FeO mafics and abundant metal suggests this meteorite is tentatively classified as a winonaite, although it lacks features common to winonaites (graphite and daubreelite). Further studies are warranted to confirm the classification. |
This small and rare winonaite was unanimously voted by MWG onto the special list at the Fall 2017 meeting |
