Macroscopic Description - Cecilia Satterwhite
Ninety percent of the exterior of QUE94396 is covered with dull, fractured, brownish-black fusion crust. A few millimeter sized weathered inclusions are obvious in the heavily oxidized interior.
Thin Section Description (,2) - Brian Mason
The section shows numerous chondrules (up to 0.9 mm across), chondrule fragments, and mineral grains in a dark brown to black matrix which contains minor amounts of nickel-iron and troilite. Brown limonitic staining pervades the section. Microprobe analyses show a range of olivine and pyroxene compositions: olivine, Fa1-27, mean Fa14; pyroxene, Fs5-10. The meteorite is classified as an L3 chondrite (estimated L3.4). |
