Macroscopic Description - Cecilia Satterwhite
Black fractured fusion crust and evaporites cover 60% of this carbonaceous chondrite’s exterior. Some areas reveal a dark gray to black matrix with light and dark inclusions/chondrules and exhibits some oxidation. The black interior has abundant white inclusions with some weathering present.
Thin Section Description (,2) - Cari Corrigan, Linda Welzenbach, Nicole Lunning
This section consists of abundant, small (up to 1 mm) chondrules, chondrule fragments and mineral grains in a dark matrix, which exhibits a distinct planar fabric. Metal and sulfide occur within and rimming the chondrules. Glass within chondrules appears to be very clear/fresh. CAIs are abundant (mostly Type A), and range in size up to 1 mm. AOAs up to 1 mm are present, as well. Olivine ranges in composition from Fa1-42. This is a CO3 chondrite (likely type 3.0-3.2). |
