Returning Antarctic Meteorite Samples

What do I need to include when returning the sample?

Use Official Sample Numbers According to Your Sample Inventory. You may obtain a current listing of your samples by emailing the Sample Control Center or calling at 281-483-2254 or FAX 281-483-5347.

Do I need to include the Meteorite Sample Analysis record form?

Only if the sample has been subjected to ion-probe, proton-probe, laser-ablation, micro-coring or another destructive method or unusual technique and it is a thin section or probe mount. OTHERWISE THIS FORM IS NOT NEEDED.  If you have used a destructive method or unusual technique, then the documentation of the technique must be sent with the sample on the Meteorite Sample Analysis Record form.

Download the form to list the type of destructive techniques and sample coatings (Au, C or otherwise) applied to the sample.

How do I package the return?

Prepare packages so that they are strong and resistant to damage. Container strength and sealing provisions should be compatible with requirements of registered mail with the U.S. Postal Service.
